Luckily, privatization brought progress, which was not the case in other companies in the Republic of Srpska. This of course does not mean that the workers of NEIMARSTVO Company didn’t face many problems after the company’s property changed the status from “national” (i.e. “state”) to private. This transformation happened in September 2003 and the workers had to start with reconstruction of the company’s resources. Although the new managers were young and assertive they couldn’t even assume what was in store for them. They struggled with old debts that were amassed-tothe state, suppliers, and workers themselves. The workers had to be encouraged to stay in the company but also be given guaranteed rights.

 

Besides the problem of regular wage payment NEIMARSTVO faced a burst of prosecutions for unpaid wages in the previous period. The verdict for wages payment execution followed one after another in 2004. It seemed impossible to struggle with all these problems and to run business at the same time. NEIMARSTVO management would say about this hard period that they thus started constructing besides all difficulties in 2004. In 2005 NEIMARSTVO started making progress which announced regaining old reputation. In late 2005, a new building in the Svatovska Street in Bregovi was finished. It represented the fusion of modern design, modern construction standards, high quality building and low price. 16 flats were constructed on the surface of 750m2 in size. The flats were small and each flat had its cellar. The thermo-insulation system is foam insulation 8 centimeters thick, and it was installed on the whole construction including the roof. This system of insulation is very effective, and the owners of these flats can confirm this-they saved a lot. This building (and all the other buildings) was constructed according the agreement NEIMARSTVO had with the future flat buyers; their requirements were suited according to the project design possibilities. Although NEIMARSTVO was still in debts, it finally started running its business-construction and project making, just like 60 years ago when it was founded. According to previous experience in project making and construction of industrial facilities, NEIMARSTVO built a far smaller construction (compared to industrial facilities done for big companies) which was well done, taking into account the working conditions. It was a special construction-Winery of Tvrdos monastery. The construction itself is very interesting because it was done on a site which was hard to approach and of relatively huge dimensions. It was 9 meters high, 11, 5 meters wide and 25 meters long. The monks from this monastery have ambitions to build an annexe and to increase the production of their excellent wine, so the NEIMARSTVO constructors had that in mind and laid solid foundations of the building. In the same year, a similar building was constructed. It was a Winery of famous “Vukoje wine cellar”. This was also a construction of relatively huge dimensions, similar to above mentioned Winery. Constructions between floors were made to support heavy weight, with high percent of concrete armour. Besides this, it is interesting to mention a workshop constructed for the needs of Zahumsko-hercegovacka and primorska archbishopric. This is a carpenter-wax workshop near Tvrdos monastery. Also, a workshop for a firm “MAK Company” was constructed, in Trebinje suburb-Hrupjela. The construction started in 2005. Almost in the same way as “District construction firm Trebinje” started its business 60 years ago (without equipment), so did NEIMARSTVO restarted today. The equipment was taken away, or unusable.

 

The managers of NEIMARSTVO, besides considerable financial problems, succeeded in purchasing new equipment and mechanization worth millions of KMs. The construction equipment and mechanization is still being supplied and many big construction companies would envy NEIMARSTVO for that. As in previous decades of NEIMARSTVO development, the company continues to make rapid progress, year after year. Reconstruction of a quarry, construction site, concrete factory and concrete blocks factory in Lucin Do near Trebinje was done. The level of production today is quite near planned level, but the development of the company will sure continue, and the aim is to double the production. Investment in production lines recovery is in progress. Besides modernization and recovery of production, an automatic weighbridge was installed, modern electronic surveillance system, modern laboratory is planned to be built, de-dusting system, and many other things.

 

In late 2005, NEIMARSTVO managers brought decision to sell a site near head office building in Trebinje to a French Company “Interex”, in order to solve financial problems of old debts towards its workers and unpaid taxes in the period of 1998-2002. This proved to be a good decision, besides money NEIMARSTVO got for the site; it also was engaged in building business premises for “Interex”. The construction was 2000m2 in size. This business engagement was crucial for NEIMARSTVO, and as its managers usually say that  it “pulled the trigger” in financial position of the company.

 

In 2006 NEIMARSTVO finished “Interex” business premises (a large supermarket) and started building residential-business block of flats S-93. According to the first project design, there supposed to be 93 flats, divided into 4 parts, (from 6 to 9 floors high), but later the number of flats increased to 107. This project will take up about 4500m2 in size and besides usual standards, elevators in all buildings’ hallways, central heating system, etc will be included. The tradition of high quality building and good reputation that NEIMARSTVO gained in constructing many tourist and residential-business facilities all over former Yugoslavia, will successfully be continued, for sure. The progress will be slow, but NEIMARSTVO survived many decades on competitive construction market. NEIMARSTVO successfully achieves its aims, and as a proof of this is a business engagement in a big modern city, such as Belgrade, and any construction company, not only from our country, but from neghbouring Serbia or Montenegro would like to get such business offer. NEIMARSTVO constructors started building a residential building in the Vovode Stepe Street through the agency of its branch office “NEIMARSTVO International” from Belgrade.

 

It is also important to mention the foundation of branch office in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. After a residential building was finished, there are plans of opening new construction sites in Montenegro. In addition to this, in 2005 a contract was signed with Italian company SUPCO, and there are big chances that the contract will be realized, and the progress will be more than evident.

 

Today, NEIMARSTVO has about 190 employees, with rising tendency for all levels of education. For a small town like Trebinje, it represents a great success, if we take into account low living-standard, high percentage of unemployment and the fact that construction business in the Republic of Srpska is not fully developed.
